How-to: spring clean your skincare routine
If you’re anything like me, your skin copped a beating from all of the elements in winter, including central heating, wind and – I’m ashamed to say – showering under really hot water.
As a result, I was left dealing with dry and flaky patches, rough skin, redness and dehydration. Now, even though it’s BB cream season, I’m still not ready to put away the heavy foundation that covered a multitude of skin sins during the chilly months. Are you in the same position?
Well, it’s time to switch up your skincare routine and get your skin primed to look its absolute glowing best for the balmy days and nights ahead. Read on to find out how to revive, refresh, and reboot tired winter skin. Let’s do this!
Make micellar cleansing a habit
This miracle water is a master at whisking away make-up, dirt, oil and impurities, and is really gentle on the skin. It’s perfect for prepping your skin for a deep clean with your regular cleanser. For a really refreshing twist, keep your micellar cleansing water in the fridge to instantly invigorate a dull complexion.
Get set to scrub
Dead skin cells, be gone! If you are yet to invest in a face exfoliator, put it at the top of your to-buy list immediately. After cleansing, squeeze a pea-sized amount of exfoliator onto your fingertips, rub them together, and then gently massage it over your face using circular motions. Pay special attention to those hard-to-reach areas where dead skin builds up, like the hairline, jawline and corners of your nose. Say hello to fresh, glowing skin.
Opt for a lighter night cream
During winter, your skin is desperate for moisture, which is why it’s essential to use a deep hydrating night cream religiously. But during the warmer months, switch to a lighter cream or gel instead. This will inject your skin with the hydration it needs while repairing and replenishing cells overnight. Smooth the cream or gel over your entire face and neck before hitting the hay, and wake up to a glowing, refreshed complexion.
