The one trick that will extend the life of your mascara

Mascara is an essential tool in every beauty enthusiast’s kit. And when you wear it every day (like most of us do), it can be really frustrating when it runs out, or worse, turns into a clumpy dried mess.
But there is one easy trick that can solve both of these problems and help you to get the most out of your mascara tube.
It’s as easy as pouring a cup of hot water and placing your mascara (with the lid screwed on tight) into the cup, then letting it soak for 2-3 minutes.
Yep, that’s it.
Soaking your tube in hot water will help to loosen all of the dried up bits and turn clumps smooth again. The end result? You’ll be able to use every last morsel in your mascara (woohoo!), not to mention it will glide across your lashes like it’s brand new again.
All hail hot water!
Have you ever tried this mascara trick? What other mascara beauty hacks do you know?

How long does mascara last normally?
I’m not a huge wearer of eye makeup but I'd like to explore a range for sensitive eyes!

I sometimes just use eye drops or contact solution and give my mascara tube a shake, but this sounds like an interesting hack.

Will have to try this. I would imagine it needs to be heated every time I go to use it as it would probably thicken again once it goes back to room temperature.

I don't think I have ever finished a bottle of mascara! Buy a new one every 2-3 months. To keep longevity though, try not to expose the wand to air too much (constant pumping of wand into tube when applying, that dries it out a whole lot!!!)

I discard my mascara after it has reached its suggested expiry date of about three months, so I wouldn't try this trick. I prefer my mascaras to have a thicker formula because I want maximum volume. I find that some mascaras become thicker after a few weeks or so. If I were to add water, I'd probably make the mascara less volumising.

Wouldn't do this if the mascara is older than 3 months - a new tube of mascara is cheaper than doctor's appointments + medications!

If my mascara starts to get dry and clumpy I've probably had it long enough to bin it, so I've never had to use this tip.

Ok, in my opinion, if your mascara is running low or getting clumpy, it's probably time to throw it in the bin and start a new one, well, you know, for hygiene reasons...
