Make a bold statement with your lip look
Some women are all about eyeshadow. Some couldn’t go a day without some blush or bronzer to warm their complexion. And then you have the group of women who own 73,000 bright lipsticks and will always, always, be rocking a bold lip.
So what if you’re not one of those who own a gazillion colourful lippies and have no experience in making your lips the focus of your face? How the heck do you create a make-up look that hones in on the lips and makes a bold statement?
First things first: you need to pick your colour (weapon) of choice. We suggest something that’s super-pigmented and long-lasting – you don’t want your perfectly vibrant pout to look dull and washed out in a matter of minutes.
A classic red is a really good option if you’re looking to go all-out with your lip look, and the new Yves Saint Laurent Rouge Pur Couture Glossy Stain Collector No. 9 is the kind of shade that not only fits the ‘true red’ bill, but suits every skin tone. Winning!
Once you’ve chosen your colour, you need to nail the application, so we asked Yves Saint Laurent’s state make-up artist Phoebe Witney for her best tips:
1) Apply a small amount of CC cream around your lips, gently patting it into your skin.
2) Then, apply Yves Saint Laurent Touche Eclat around your lips and blend. This will enhance the natural line of your lips.
3) If you’re after a slight shine, apply one coat of your Yves Saint Laurent Rouge Pur Couture Glossy Stain Collector No. 9, brushing from the outer corners of your lips in towards the centre. For a more intense finish, apply a second coat using the outer curved side of the applicator.
4) Finish by dabbing some Yves Saint Laurent Touche Eclat on your cupid’s bow and blend. This will really maximise the effect of your bold pout.
Once your lips are sorted, complete your make-up look with thick winged liner*, lashings of mascara on both your top and bottom lashes, and defined brows. Gently sweep some bronzer just under your cheekbones and you’re done. In fact, you’re now one sultry head-turner.
*Not a fan of winged liner? No problem. You can use liquid or gel liner on your upper lash line instead to create the same kind of definition. Start thinly at the inner corner and make the line thicker as you take it to the outer corner.
