Smart ski season makeup swaps

We’re the first to embrace a new season here at bh HQ (hello, brand new wardrobe!), but did you know you should also be rejigging your make-up bag at this time, too? From preventing lip stains sucking the life out of your pucker, to putting matte, dry skin to bed, there’s a number of key product swaps that’ll leave you looking stylish and fresh-faced all winter long.
SWAP THIS: matte foundation
FOR THIS: a luminous, glowy foundation like Bourjois Healthy Mix Foundation, and add a whole heap of moisture to a parched complexion in the process. Dewy skin is fresh, healthy-looking skin, so avoid loading up on powder-based products.
SWAP THIS: powder bronzer
FOR THIS: a crème blush like Bloom Sheer Colour Cream. Why? Super-tanned skin looks a tad ridiculous in the cooler months, so ditch the golden glow and opt for fresh, luminous, creamy pink blushes instead. They blend easily into the skin once applied, and give a naturally radiant flush.
SWAP THIS: bright nail polish
FOR THIS: a deep berry lacquer like N.Y.C. Color Nail Enamel in Plaza Plumberry, and you’ll look instantly polished. Nails are a little more refined and glamorous in winter, so keep the summery brights for, well, summer. Shades of grey, chocolate, taupe and even black are also brilliant choices. (Note: be sure to use a base coat. Dark hues are prone to nail staining.)
SWAP THIS: lip stain
FOR THIS: a tinted lip balm with SPF like Mary Kay Tinted Lip Balm SPF 15 in Fig, and your lips will not only be sporting a hint of colour, but feel moisturised and protected from the sun, too. Your pout is one of the first things to become cracked and flaky in winter, so when you’re not working your bold lipstick, make sure you’re giving them a little extra nourishment.
SWAP THIS: pastel eyeshadow
FOR THIS: a rich metallic cream eyeshadow like Bobbi Brown Metallic Long-Wear Cream Shadow in Brown Metal and embrace the impact of a dramatic eye. Colours such as bronze, plum, emerald and violet work wonderfully in winter, but if a full lid of dense, high-pigment colour is too much for you, take the hue along your lash line like a liner instead. Tip: popping a shimmery gold in the inner corner of your eyes will open them up while softening the look at the same time.
SWAP THIS: kohl eyeliner
FOR THIS: a liquid eyeliner like SAX Liquid Eyeliner. Keep the soft, smudgy eye looks for warm summer days and embrace the sharp, sophisticated glamour of a clean winged eye. Team it with a bold berry lip and contoured cheeks for an edgy yet feminine look.

Yes I do change up my beauty products when the weather gets colder, I definitely go for lip balms rather than lip gloss. I also use a hand cream with a moisture barrier to protect hands from the elements.

I agree with all of these except for the bronzer! I am deathly pale and a bit of bronzer lifts my complexion so much (with some creme blush on the apples of my cheeks of course)! and I love to rock a creamy lipstick in winter as well!

If you are going to go skiing or snowboarding tone down the makeup because you will stick out like a sore thumb. Natural is best

The Bobbi B Cream shadow sounds great to me and one i'd love to swap to. I won't be going to the snow etc but definitely swap gloss for lip balms, creams in winter along with foundation. Some nice suggestions here :)
