How to create dotted heart nail art
As I have mentioned previously, I’m not the best when it comes to nail art - but I’m always trying to improve my skills. Thankfully, Mitra Burns (Instagram: @mitty_burns) is really good at it, and she’s been nice enough to share a how-to of one of her creations. It’s easy to follow (trust me), so even if you’re new to nail art, you’ll be able to give it a try.
What you’ll need:
2 nail polishes of your choice (“I like a light and dark colour to show contrast,” says Mitra)
A piece of baking paper
Paint your nails using the lighter colour and then wait until they’re completely dry.
Put a few drops of the darker polish on the baking paper. Either use the brush that comes with the bottle to do this, or simply pour the polish out really carefully. Then dip your toothpick into the polish, making sure you have enough on the tip.
Gently place the tip of your toothpick at the bottom and middle of your first nail. Then continue adding dots until you reach the tip of your nail.
Top tip: For the best results, dip your toothpick in the polish for every dot.
To start the next row of dots, place a new dot in between each dot you created in the first row, so they’re alternating.
Repeat this until you’ve created enough rows to fill your nail with dots. Then do the same on the rest of your fingers, leaving your ring finger bare for the feature design.
Top tip: If your dots start to become bigger in size, clean the top of your toothpick.
To create the heart shape on the feature nail, do six dots to form the outline.
Then, fill in the outline with more dots. Don’t worry if they’re not all the same size - this ‘can make your heart look even better!
Lastly, fill in your heart with more dots until you get the finish you want.
