Take me to the dark side
Most people worry about dark roots, I on the other hand have the opposite problem.
Yep, that’s right beauties, no matter how hard I will my mop to maintain its gorgeous hazelnut hue, my blonde beginnings just keep coming through (as do the ‘blonde moments’ – just can’t seem to kick those either!)
Now as much as I love Vincent Nobile (my fabulous colourist at Sydney’s Headcase Hair), I don’t really want to spend every second weekend in the salon with him.
Luckily, he was happy to give me (and all you ladies out there struggling to maintain coloured locks) a few tips to extend the time between trips to the salon:
Invest in a shampoo and conditioner specifically designed for dyed hair.
Products with colour-enhancing properties will help to lock in your colour and prevent it from fading, giving the lifespan of your new hue maximum longevity.
(I’ve been alternating my regular colour-lock S&C with Wella System Professional Biotouch Color Reflect Shampoo in Brown – it deposits a bit of colour to my strands and works a treat in disguising my blonde roots for an extra few washes.)
Avoid products containing the nasty, heavier silicones.
These will leave a strong film over your hair, preventing colour from penetrating the hair properly, and therefore making it more likely to fade faster. (Check out my blog for more info on which silicones to avoid).
Maximise blonde shine.
If your hair is shiny, the colour automatically looks more vibrant – unfortunately though, this is much harder to achieve on blonde locks. Wella System Professional Luminous range contains pearl extracts and is formulated to enhance shine and treat blonde hair, so consistent use will make your colour look better for longer.
How often do you go to your hairdresser?
