4 things to do the night before race day

If you’ve ever planned a daytime event with your girlfriends, you’ll know that they come with their fair share of hurdles – many more than a standard night out. For one, they tend to be much longer days, and you usually have to deal with the sun. This means you can often feel like your hair and make-up are doing a shocking job of keeping up with you throughout the day.
The secret is to spend some time the night before taking steps to ensure you have a fuss-free, enjoyable day, complete with well-behaved hair, skin and shoes, for that matter! If you do nothing else before a big day event, make sure you have these four bases covered…
#1: Treat your tresses
Nothing will make your hair look as luscious (or keep your styles in place for longer) than a proper pamper session. When in the shower, shampoo your hair with a clarifying product, like Moroccanoil Clarifying Shampoo, to rid your hair of any product build-up. Then, instead of your regular conditioner, use a nourishing mask that you can leave on for 10 minutes. We recommend Kérastase Discipline Maskertine as it works overtime to help restore moisture and rejuvenate damaged hair.
#2: Makeover your mani
Some people wouldn’t agree with applying an acrylic mani the night before a big event, but I think it’s the most effective method. No-one wants their acrylics flinging off throughout the day, so by applying them at night, you’re giving them more than enough time to adhere to your properly prepared nail (who has time to prep in the morning, anyway?). Likewise, you can rest assured that any nails that make it through the night are more than likely to last the day, too! We love Elegant Touch House of Holland Classy Nude nails. They’re the perfect nude hue and almond shape, meaning they’ll go with any race day outfit.
#3: Prep your skin right
Want your make-up to look perfectly polished, and stay that way throughout the day? This comes down to the steps you take the night before. Start with a scrub to gently slough away the dead skin cells from your complexion and reveal a radiant layer of skin underneath. We love RACINNE Gentle Refining Scrub as it contains lemongrass, peach extract and ultra-fine exfoliating beads to remove impurities. Next, pamper your freshly exfoliated skin with a nourishing face mask. This will help to even out your skin tone and replenish dehydrated skin. We recommend Essenzza Health Moisturise + Smooth as it’s a Japanese silk facial mask formulated with carrot seed and coconut oil to soothe skin and slow down the ageing process. Finish with a generous helping of Neutrogena Hydroboost, a clever gel that works to double your skin’s moisture level and by doing so, help your make-up stay put while you’re trackside.
#4: Pack the essentials
Unfortunately, getting sore feet is almost a certainty during daytime events. Be proactive and pack your clutch with essentials to help walk you through the day with ease – all puns intended. Compeed® Blister Patches work to combat pain in around 10 seconds, and repel water, dirt and germs. If you’re really concerned with how your feet will hold up in your brand new heels, throw in a pair of Hollywood Fashion Secrets Fashionista Flats. It’s good to tick these things off your to-do list the night before, as chances are, the stress of doing your hair and make-up in the morning will consume you to the point where you forget all of the really important things – like being comfortable!
Which steps would you be sure not to miss the night before a big event? Which essentials do you need for a day at the races?

Now the interesting thing about packing the emergency flats is this: what do you do with your original shoes?! My first pair of emergency flats actually came with it's own "bag" that opened into a drawstring back for your original shoes, however it wasn't made from the best quality material. The concept however was fantastic and it got plenty of use. Too bad you can't get them anymore!

Those Hollywood Fashion Flats are sooooo cute - I want a pair even if I don't go to the races!! ; ) I'd love to try that Neutrogena Boost to hydrate my skin before an event and I've heard this one is REALLY excellent from a very reliable source ; ) The other thing that grabs my attention is the House of Holland nail kit in Classy Nude - gotta love those!

Love the flats, someone should sell them at the races so the poor girls don't walk on the gross pathway barefoot.

I'm not really into races either, but they are good tips for any event. I always like to make sure I"m hair-free, have moisturised, put a treatment in my hair, nails done, etc.

I always wear my new shoes before the big day just so I will have the feel of it. You don't want to look glamorous but uncomfortable all day long!

Nails need to be done a day in advance. I have painted my nails the day of an occasion before but if they smudge then I have no time to fix it.
