RELATED: The best hair straightening brushes
Being that we’re lucky enough to work in beauty, we get to try a lot of different products, including heat stylers and hair styling tools. We’ve had our hair crimped, straightened, curled, waved, you name it. So we’ve got a few opinions when it comes to hair tools – keep reading to find out what they are.
Hair type/hair concerns: Fine hair but lots of it!
Favourite hair styling tool: I am obsessed with my new Dyson Supersonic Hair Dryer ($499, harveynorman.com.au) because it dries my hair lightening quick without leaving it feeling fried. And because I’m a hair editor and can’t choose, I also love my Remington Keratin & Argan Oil Nourish Conical Tong – tighter, springier curls are making a major comeback and this tool is perfect for getting the ‘modern perm’ look without damaging my fine strands.
Hair type/hair concerns: I have thick and unruly hair that's neither straight nor curly.
Favourite hair styling tool: My ghd IV styler has been my must have hair tool for many years now. The slick and lightweight design makes it easy to manoeuvre when attempting a classic ghd curl and the ceramic plates ensure my hair doesn't end up dry and damaged, a miracle given how often I torture my hair with heat!
Hair type/hair concerns: My hair type is thin, weak and damaged from dying my hair blonde. I also have hair extensions. My main concern is adding volume to my hair.
Favourite hair styling tool: The Cloud Nine C9 Waving Wand ($270, adorebeauty.com.au) gives me big, bouncy curls that I can brush out to look perfectly tousled. It's really easy to use and I never get kinks in my hair like I used to when I used a straightener to curl my hair. I always use a glove on one hand when I'm using it because it gets really hot and I've been burned before.
Hair type/hair concerns: Dry, naturally curly but increasingly frizzy as I get older.
Favourite hair styling tool: The VS Sassoon Wet & Dry Straightening Brush literally changed my life when it was first launched! For the first time I could wash and style my hair into a sleek, more professional look instead of leaving it to dry naturally into a frizzy pyramid shape because I am incompetent with a regular hair dryer and hairbrush.
Hair type/hair concerns: I have thick hair but my main concern is hair thinning.
Favourite hair styling tool: My favourite heat styler is my Twin Turbo 2800 hair dryer ($119.95, myhaircare.com.au). I am hopeless at straightening my hair so tend to accept it as it is with the dryer. I love this hair dryer because it is strong and hot and I manage to blow dry my thick hair in under 10 minutes!
Hair type/hair concerns: I have straight, thick hair. My main concern would be that my hair can look lifeless and flat.
Favourite hair styling tool: To give my hair texture and body, I love using a straightening wand to give a subtle wave and curl to my hair. My favourite is the ghd gold. Heats up in a jiffy and is super speedy to use, once you get the hang of curling with a straightener! Having super straight locks, my hair can look pretty boring, so adding in waves with the ghd straightener provides that texture and oomph that I'm lacking naturally.
Hair type/hair concerns: Thin and prone to damage.
Favourite hair styling tool: My favourite heat styler is without a doubt the VS Sassoon Diamond Waves. I'm absolutely terrible at styling my own hair and couldn't create a curl with a straightening iron if I tried, but this tool is SO easy to use and produces the nicest looking brushed-out waves in my hair. It also heats up really quickly and forms the curl in just a few seconds so is ideal for when you only have a few minutes to create your look. Love it!
Hair type/hair concerns: I have frizzy, thick and curly hair so trying to tame it has always been my biggest concern.
Favourite hair styling tool: It’s a really tough choice, as I use a bunch to try and make my hair look neater, but I’d have to say the ghd platinum® white styler is my favourite. I was blown away the first time I used it. I used to spend an excruciating amount of time straightening my hair only to have it poof out again. This styler changed everything because it cut my straightening time down by SO much and actually stayed straight. It’s just so reliable. Plus, the white colour is really cute!
Hair type/hair concerns: Thin and damaged.
Favourite hair styling tool: Cloud Nine C9 Iron - Hair Straightener And Styling Iron (from $299, adorebeauty.com.au). The heat settings allow me to use a lower temperature and and be more gentle with my fragile hair. I also find with less heat there is less flyaways.
Hair type/hair concerns: Thick/wavy/frizzy/sometimes curly, so my main concern is settling frizz.
Favourite hair styling tool: I use my ghd V gold max styler religiously. It's got large enough plates to accommodate my thick hair and it gets the job done twice as fast as regular size straighteners. It leaves my hair feeling silky, smooth and frizz free.
Hair type/hair concerns: Straight, thick.
Favourite hair styling tool: GlamPalm Ceramic Hair Straightener (from $245, myhaircare.com.au) is a god send for my thick hair! It heats up quickly and I only need to run it over a section of hair once or twice to get it straight- also with no flyaways thanks to the ceramic plates!
