Hi all, I am tired of my hair being so frizzy and dry, what can I use to help tame it?
Any tips would be great thanks!
Sometimes I use a tiny drop of oil on the palm of my hand and rub my palms together to smooth it, you have to use only a small amount or your hair will look oily.
But most of the time I use a leave-in conditioner after washing. Glow lab hair serum or Shea moisture curl enhancing smoothie, they are both silicone free. I don't use silicones in hair products.
I have come to accept I will always have some frizz, even if my hair is in perfect condition it always has it to some extent.
My hair is frizzy, curly and dry! I've always found a small amount Moroccan/Argain oil is very good for taming the frizz and keeping it hydrated.
The Body Shops Argan oil Hair and body spray works wonders and I found I only needed 2 quick spritzes for it to work.
For my hair I find out that the trick is to work towards curly. The more I can encourage curls over frizz the better my hair looks (trying to get my hair to go straight is a recipe for frizz). I love argan oil too - my favourite is The Ordinary which is pure argan oil with no additives and very inexpensive (~$13 at Priceline for a bottle that lasts for a long time)! I like to use a couple of drops (maybe 3 or so) on damp hair. Another trick I got from Liv Tyler (not personally lol!) is once I've put in the oil and scrunched it through I take my hair into two bunches (like plaits or ponytails) and twist them putting the ends into my bra. I let it dry this way and then shake it out a bit and voila - it's calm, and more curly than frizzy (always the goal!). I never use products with silicone on my hair. Frizz-Ease is the worst - it's packed with silicones and I know it's great for some frizzy hair but for me - it just makes it 10x frizzier (and no chance of curl plus I hate the sensation on my hands).
I have really frizzy hair but lately I have been using OGX's Argan Oil Extra Strength hair mask and leaving it in for at least an hour (even up to two or three hours when I'm working from home!). It has really changed my hair and it provides enough moisture to my hair to make it lay flat rather than frizz up, but in no way does it weigh it down or makes it oily or heavy. My hair doesn't frizz at all now (unless it rains!). I have tried leaving other hair masks for the same amount of time, but I dont' get the same results as with the OGX mask.
My hair is also really frizz and dry. I will be trying this mask and your tip about leaving it in for an hour as the results sound amazing. I'll try anything. Thank you for sharing Eskimo :)
Oh I like the sound of this Eskimo I have the thickest mist frizzy hair and am always trying to control it rather than it control me. Will have to try this :)
For anyone that is considering trying the OGX Extra Strength Argan Oil Hair Mask, please be aware that it contains two ingredients that may dry your hair out if you have a certain type of hair. The ingredients are isopropyl alcohol and silk amino acids (I believe this is a type of protein). I have dry and frizzy hair and I found out that products with too much protein make my hair feel brittle and straw-like. Alcohol in a product can also make my hair drier. Of course, everyone's hair is different, so some people will benefit from this hair mask.
If anyone is looking for a hair oil that is cost-effective for long-term use, I recommend Palmer's Natural Fusions Ceramide Monoi Hair Food Oil which I've reviewed on beautyheaven. I have been using it as a temporary detangling product until I find a better product. It doesn't detangle my hair as much as I had hoped for (my hair is extremely knotty), but it is still a lovely product. You can probably use it as a pre-shampoo treatment but I haven't yet tried it for this purpose.
I used to use coconut oil as a pre-shampoo treatment, but then I switched to jojoba oil as it doesn't have such a heavy consistency. Jojoba oil can also be beneficial for some scalp conditions.
Thanks everyone for the suggestions, I will be sure to try some of them out
This is what I’ve been doing lately. I wash my hair usually about twice a week. So days in between I run a wide tooth comb through my hair. Then in the spray bottle are a couple of large blobs of the Marc Anthony Curl lotion, all shaken up. And I spray that through my hair. Then run the comb through again and voila my curls are refreshed and looking a little less dry.
Frizzy hair is hard to tame but the best home remedy that I tried on this was apple cider vinegar as it can also help remove product residue, which can make hair appear shinier. It also has antibacterial and antifungal properties. Using it is very simple. Just mix one third of organic apple cider vinegar in one quart of warm water and pour on your hair and leave this for one to three minutes. Then rinse your hair with cool water. This remedy can be used twice a week only.
Always oil your hair before shampoo. You can use coconut oil and leave it on your hair for one to two hours before shampoo. Use a conditioner always. After you dry your hair use a very tiny amount of coconut oil and rub your palms with it and then rub your palms on your hair, it is great for frizzy and dry hair.
I love and use so many Weleda products but this Hydrating Facial Mist is my new favourite - I spray it on clean skin instead of my toner and then layer on my serum, cream and oil.
Surprisingly good and affordable
