Has anyone had this done at the dentist? Were the results worth the cost?
I think it very much depends on the dentist and the type of treatment they use. I especially know that if you drink coffee, red wine, coke, tea, or smoke, the treatment wont last as long.
I had mine done a few years ago and it only lasted about 3 months. I am sure there will be other ladies that can help your further. Goodluck.
This is my job (dental) and I always say to my patients it's like bleaching your hair - are you prepared for that? As with hair there are specialized products you need to buy and use on a regular basis, you need to go back to the dentist and get it done repeatedly and if you don't change the reason your teeth are discoloured (tea, coffee, wine, smoking etc) then prepare yourself for multiple visits.
As with hair there is no damage-free method - it changes your teeth and they are then more susceptible to staining (not to mention increased sensitivity) and you are then on a never-ending merry-go-round. If you want my professional opinion then maybe do it once for a special occasion like a wedding or something where your photos will last forever. I don't whiten my teeth and there is a really good reason for that.
duality does the same thing go for those whitening toothpastes?
some of them contain abrasives and are not good, but others like the Colgate (in the gold box at supermarket) is good and I use it myself. I'd highly recommend anyone thinking of whitening to buy some GC Tooth Mousse (regular, not the Plus version). Use it daily and you will notice a big improvement - we call it a serum for your smile :) If you must chemically whiten then use the Tooth Mousse religiously.
Thank you duality good to know. I'll give that Colgate one a go.
Love tooth mousse!
I wanted to read what people were saying about whitening their teeth and have just read your comment.
Thank you for an honest appraisal duality. I used a whitening toothpaste a year ago and have damaged the enamel on my teeth with this procedure.
I use Crest whitening strips and I see good results. But as you have mentioned, you should keep applying them every now and then because its not permanent.
So true duality. I got my teeth whitened at the dentist about 4 years ago. They were almost white before the procedure. But now, my teeth stain so easily and within a year actually turned a couple of shades yellower than my original colour. If I could go back in time, I would not get it done again.
I'd be interested to hear about this too.. i've always wanted to get it done but have heard a lot of negative reviews and a lot of people seem to say it can be painful..eek!
I've used the take home whitening kits (poladay 6% I think) from the dentist and had really good results. I had a little sensitivity but after using a sensitive toothpaste it disappeared :)
I know someone who has her teeth bleached done quite regularly but she told me now her gums are overly sensitive and ache. I wonder if that's some sort of side effect. It sounds horrific.
I had whitening done at the dentist (not the take home kit) about 5 years ago and they are still quite white and haven't needed to be redone. From memory, I think it cost around $700.
I think the effectiveness depends upon the dentist, the whitening method they use and how well you protect your teeth from staining in the future. It really shouldn't need to be repeated regularly.
It definitely depends on the dentist. and I reckon some are more reputable than others. I have certainly had my fair share of dentists where their bedside manner left a bit to be desired.
I had my teeth whitened and I love the result - I had been bothered by the yellowing of my teeth (coffee and red wine are not great) so took the plunge. I went to these guys and they were great - http://www.simplybeautifulsmiles.com.au.
Has anyone tried this??? Just saw it in my newsfeed on Facebook ! When I was a teen mum would tell us to use bi carb on our toothbrushes to help whiten our teeth! It really did work.. Just tasted bad!!
I did! it worked so well!
Hey! I have not had my teeth whitened at the dentist, but really need to! Unfortunately, I have braces and a bite jumper and a retainer, so it makes it a bit tricky!
Kate, if you want your teeth whiten then take out your retainer & get those one's done, have your dentist not touch the one's with the brace's on, it will be painful but given the fact you experience that with brace's then this would be no different to that then you can put your retainer back in but not straight away obviously you would have certain hour's for that retainer to be in/out for- this wouldn't be tricky at all.
Thanks for the help! Will try that.
I used to want to whiten my teeth at the dentist, but I am scared if it will do any damage to my teeth.
I use Crest Whitening Strips which i purchase from a seller on eBay because you cannot purchase them instore here in Aus. I get fantastic results with these strips but they cause me to have extreme sensitivity hours after ive done a treatment. I guess beauty is pain and i will admit - im scared to continue using them on a regular basis but for every now and then i can deal with it.

I did it about 10 years ago using Zoom at the dentist. It makes your teeth quite sensitive soon after and I got what they call "zingers" (random shoots of pain going up your teeth) it can be pretty intense but is gone by the next day. The GC mousse helps with this.
The results really depend on how many shades lighter you go.
I've marked kvostaas above as SPAM.
For many years I have had severe allergic reaction to normal hair colour that contains ammonia and peroxide.
I had good results both with niacinamide and vitamin C in the past, and I like using them both in my morning routine, but I'm not a fan of layering several products.
I loved this. I have dry hair but wow this changed it. It hydrated and moisturized my hair, it made it smell so nice and fresh. It gave my hair a shine.
