Are you race day ready?
Racing season is the perfect time to pull out that dress you’ve been dying to wear, try some new fancy make-up tricks - and honestly, when else can you get away with wearing a fascinator?
But while dressing up on the day is certainly half the fun of going to the races, there are a few things worth doing in the lead up, for less stress and a flawless finish on the day. Watch the video above to see our best tips, or take a look at the beauty checklist below.
2 WEEKS BEFORE - Find your dress
Choosing your dress at the last minute often ends in frustration and tears. Check for any dress codes and get your outfit sorted early, so you can coordinate accessories and make-up from there.
1 WEEK BEFORE - Wear in your shoes
Don’t make the mistake of buying new shoes and then not wearing them until race day! Walk around in them as much as possible in the week leading up to avoid blisters and foot pain.
3 DAYS BEFORE - Whiten your teeth
For a dazzling smile come race day, switch your regular toothpaste for Colgate Optic White Express White Toothpaste. Its unique enamel safe formula is great for daily use and contains twice the whitening ingredient, hydrogen peroxide, than regular Colgate Optic White, to give you whiter, brighter teeth in just 3 days.*
2 DAYS BEFORE - Practise your hairstyle
If you’re going to wear a fascinator, hat or any type of hair accessory, practice your hairstyle to make sure you can master it easily on the day. And don’t forget to take extra bobby pins with you!
1 DAY BEFORE - Nail your mani
Don’t leave your mani ‘til the last minute. Getting dressed with wet nails is a recipe for disaster, so paint them the day before for a professional-looking finish.
*For best results, use for four weeks.
Are you heading to the races? What’s your favourite way to dress up your look for a fancy event?

I don't go to the races. We usually have a lunch at work on Melb Cup day and some of us dress up if we want to. I wish it was a public holiday everywhere so many people take the day off anyway.

These are fun prepping tips for any fancy event, and I love dressing up. I just love the spring carnival fashions. Dresses, hats, heels and glamor - It's divine! But I'm not going to the races. While I absolutely mean no offence to anybody, I think people deserve to know what it's all about! Most people don't know how cruel it is. Racehorses are nearly always sold to the slaughterhouse at the end of their very short lives. But nearly all horses bred for racing don't end up being good enough, so they're sold to the slaughterhouse far sooner... That's tens of thousands every year. In the name of The Cup. The successful ones are treated horribly while alive though too. Raced while their bones are still growing and unable to cope with the physical trauma, hence their short careers & lives ended prematurely at the abattoirs. And being neglected and abused throughout their lives - behind the scenes - before their lives meet a nasty end.

When it comes to horse racing, I watch the Melbourne Cup telecast at the pub, that's it. When the weather heats up, I go out less.

I have been to a few race meetings and i found that wearing a great dress also helps. As I saw alot of women who had gone for strapless dresses spending alot of time having to pull it up. Also I think that a good size heal is important. And something in your hair thats not going to get blown away when the wind picks up. Also Sunscreen is a must.

I'm not into the races (but I do like the public holiday I get!) I wonder how much of a spike in fake-tan sales there is around this time of year?? ;)

I don't often wear high heels so wearing high heeled shoes are my fave way of getting specially dressed up for an event.

I have an exam on the race day. Damn university. (Guess I won't even have time to do anything, just wear pyjamas to the exam venue)

Not my scene, I don't like the races. The one and only time I went to the Oakes day many years ago they had to put a horse down so since then I am not at all interested..

Wearing in your shoes beforehand is a great tip. Achy feet are the worst!

I don't think I'll be doing anything for the races this year. I normally like doing something for it, however this year I think I might save my pennies!

I do like race day outfits and make up, but I'm against the racing industry as a whole.
