The plate that counts your calories for you. Yes, really!
What’s for dinner tonight? Let’s say you’re planning on making spaghetti, but you’re also on a diet and don’t want to overdo it on the carbs. As such, you’re mindful of measurements and counting the calories as you go, making sure to keep track of everything that goes into the pot by logging the ingredients on whatever fitness app you’ve downloaded. Laborious much?
Enter the shiny new SmartPlate (aka your new best friend):
Created by Philadelphia-based startup company Fitly, the SmartPlate has three digital cameras and image recognition technology to analyse your food. It transmits the data and weight of your meal to your iOS, letting you know exactly what you’re about to chow down on - calorie count and all. It even has the ability to differentiate between wholegrain and white bread, brown and white rice, and so on. Pretty impressive stuff, right?!
But don’t get too excited just yet.
Fitly is still in development, with plans to get it off the ground and into our kitchens by 2016, which means we’ve got another year left of manually controlling our food portions. All good things take time…
Watch the video demo here and see for yourself why this is one truly smart plate:
What do you thin of the SmartPlate? Would you buy one?
