Portion control: how much should I be eating?

We’re all guilty of overeating. It always seems like a good idea at the time to have that extra serve of mash potato or to take biggest piece of chicken, but it really doesn’t do our body any favours. In the video above, we introduce you to our new Health and Fitness expert, Luke Horder. He talks us through what the right portion sizes should look like in order to maintain a healthy lifestyle.
Enjoy the useful information (and eye candy), ladies!

I guess this is one of the worst times of year as its the silly season when portion sizes get forgotten about.

Hubby & I are trying to lose a few kilos & this was good to get an idea of how much we should be putting on the plate as it showed examples (phone, tennis ball) which is more practical than weights or kilo joules/calories.

I pay attention to portion size, especially when I eat pasta, because if there's too much I feel very bloated.

It's particularly hard when you go to restaurants to eat and you're served a pile, not a plate! I'm glad I'm a very slow eater and my belly tells me it's enough. I only get into trouble if it is particularly delicious. Or if it's duck.

I am definitely eating more than those portion sizes, especially the salad and using far too much dressing. The portion size of the meat, I am pretty spot on! If it was a pasta dish, then I would be over the portion size, I love my carbs!

Some people can eat whatever quantity of food they like without any repercussions to their weight or health. Others are not so blessed!

It really is common sense. Learn when you feel full helps. Sometimes a splurge is just what you want so stop beating yourself up.

Portion size is a very sensible way to maintain health and maybe lose weight if you're usually eating a bigger meal. Great tips, thanks BH

Everytime I go to dish up my dinner I will be thinking of tennis ball and mobile phone size portions. I will feel like I'm over eating if I exceed these limits. Thanks BH.

Excellent tips Luke! Had no idea Bh was hiding a Luke there in the offices!!!
I recently went bush and the steaks out there are much bigger than a mobile phone! They taste so good too - good thing I don't own a mobile phone ; )

Life is difficult enough without worrying about portion sizes unless you need to for medical reasons.
